Sample handling system relieves sample processing bottleneck

Thermo Fisher Scientific has launched a new automated sample transfer system that can process 192 saliva or nasopharyngeal samples from tube to well in 40 minutes to address a pain point and accelerate sample processing workflow.

The ‘pain point’

Scientific research in areas such as infectious disease and genetics often involves processing hundreds of samples a day, with researchers spending hours on tedious manual steps including decapping and recapping sample tubes.

The solution

Thermo Scientific claims its KingFisher SpeciTRAX Sample Transfer System’s robotics technology reduces the processing bottleneck in sample handling to increase throughput. It says that integrating the system as part of a sample processing workflow removes time-consuming manual steps including decapping, recapping and sample tracking, enabling researchers to spend less time on sample handling and more time on advancing scientific discovery.
