Merck has opened a new Launch and Technology Center for healthcare in Darmstadt, costing the company around €160 million.
This is part of a planned investment of more than €1.5 billion at the global headquarters in Darmstadt by 2025.
The Launch and Technology Center will bridge research and commercial production and will enable the company to bring in-house processes that are currently managed externally.
The Launch and Technology Center aspires to be a model of sustainability, including solar panels, geothermal energy, heat recovery systems and roof greening, among other sustainability features.
Belén Garijo, Chair of the Executive Board and CEO of Merck, says the new centre reflects the company’s “commitment to speed up the availability of future pharma medicines for patients” and its “confidence in our healthcare R&D pipeline”.
