Drug discovery industry event update and COVID-19

Despite causing huge global upheaval, COVID-19 hasn’t deterred the drug discovery and development events sector. Throughout the pandemic, event organisers have been working to ensure that the relationship building, knowledge and innovation we rely on events to deliver, can still happen despite the restrictions.

SLAS 2021

January 25-27

There are new and exciting changes taking place at the organisation. CEO Vicki Loise and the SLAS global events team have taken great care to ensure that despite the way the world is currently having to interact with one another, SLAS will deliver an international conference that allows attendees to participate as they would in person – whether that’s watching scientific content, engaging with expert speakers, meeting with exhibitors or showcasing products as an exhibitor.

SLAS2021 is now a digital event. Taking place on January 25-27 (with three optional technical workshops on January 28), attendees can join from anywhere around the world. This year’s program will feature more than 80 scientific talks, 45 exhibitor tutorials and inspiring keynotes. There will be scientific sessions across 10 tracks, Ted-style talks, dedicated sessions for Innovation Award candidate presentations, and different ways for the scientific Special Interest Groups to meet up. Plus, SLAS has powered up its poster presentations with uploadable audio and Q&A chat capabilities. Not only can registrants engage in the live event but content will be available on-demand within the event platform after the live presentation has concluded.

There will still be plenty of opportunity for companies to showcase new products and services and SLAS will also be running its coveted New Product Awards online.SLAS Director, Global Events Amy Wilkinson, CMP, is keen to ensure that the format still allows one-to-one meetings, group meetings, and that attendees can ask questions of presenters in real time.

The event is free to any premier member of the association as well as students. Non-members registrants will be invited to take advantage of complimentary membership for 2021 to engage further in SLAS’s year-round programs.

As well as SLAS2021, the organisation has been planning for 2021. It will be offering a range of programmes such as adjusted versions of its short courses in the form of single-topic workshops, multi-part online learning series and on-demand learning via its APPLIED online learning platform.

SLAS is looking forward to holding its European Sample Management Symposium in Berlin next April, focused on a regional audience. Efforts are underway to ensure a safe meeting space and high-quality education. The organisation’s first hybrid event – the SLAS 2021 Europe Conference and Exhibition – is expected to take place in Vienna, Austria, next June with in-person attendance and an online component for virtual visitors.
