AI start-up receives £1m to fund its data acquisition strategy
AI start-up deepmirror has been awarded a Phase 2 Sovereign AI grant as part of Innovate UK’s support for British businesses building world-leading AI technologies.
The grant will fund deepmirror’s data acquisition strategy in which it selects the experiments most likely to improve its molecular property models, expanding its proprietary dataset that helps chemists apply AI effectively to drug design.
deepmirror has been awarded a 70% grant rate on its project, which is valued at roughly £1 ($1.3) million.
Following completion of a successful Phase 1 project in November 2025, the company says this second grant will enable it to further its data acquisition as it builds the most comprehensive data set of molecular properties for its foundational drug design model.
Max Jakobs, Co-Founder and CEO of deepmirror, said: “AI in drug discovery has a data problem: there simply aren’t broad enough datasets on which to build and train models. deepmirror’s rapidly growing datasets aggregate molecule data from public and private sources, deepening the available pool, and improving model performance. This grant is a key part of our data acquisition strategy, and will ultimately enable better drugs to reach the market, faster.”
London-based deepmirror’s AI-native infrastructure aims to empower chemistry teams to better harness their data to progress programmes faster, with fewer dead ends.
