Feeling the pressure? How to boost productivity in the lab

Cornelia Vad, Senior Product Manager Analytical HPLC at Agilent, and Koen Sandra, CEO of RIC Group, discuss the growing pressure on labs and what can be done to enhance productivity, which can be downloaded and viewed for free from the DDW App for users of Apple or Android devices.

“Automation helps with repetitive tasks and thus increases speed and efficiency, freeing capacity for more complex tasks. It also helps ensure compliancy with the increasing regulatory pressure in many industries,” says Vad. “And if we look at digitalisation, this is a real customer journey from paper to full digital transformation. The goal is to ensure that both process inputs and outputs are completely digital and automated.”

“Automation and digitalisation have a significant role, especially in the biopharma space, where increasing complexity and higher sample volumes are becoming more common place,” says Sandra. “Liquid handling robots can help screen large numbers of samples,” he explains, “take glycan mapping for example, a complicated procedure involving high sample numbers where automation is very valuable to ensure accurate screening.”
