ELRIG at Pharmacology 2020

The event will take place online on 16 December 2020, 10:20 – 12:30 (GMT).

The Pharmacology 2020 programme is live and ELRIG is inviting attendees to its symposium Beyond Potency: the pharmacology of safe & efficacious medicines. This will take place on 16 December 2020 from 10:20 – 12:30.

For pharmacologists working in the pharma industry, the identification of novel synthetic chemicals that bind and modulate a defined drug target can represent a huge challenge. None the less, this reflects just the start of drug discovery, with years of further optimisation and development required to deliver medicines. This session will explore how pharmacologists can maximise the chances of success for a potential new drug. We will explore the concepts of PK/PD modelling, drug-at-site of action and translation, and the concept of Secondary Pharmacology.

It will be chaired by Dr Andrew Brown, GlaxoSmithKline, UKand Dr Amy Pointon, AstraZeneca, UK.

Speakers include Dr Sarah Nickolls, GlaxoSmithKline, UK.

There will also be talks from:

Dr Jean-Pierre, UCB-Biopharma, Belgium: Evaluation of current Secondary Pharmacology practices in Pharmaceutical R&D by the IQ DruSafe Consortium

Dr Friedemann Schmidt, Sanofi, Germany: Computational prediction of off-target and secondary pharmacology liabilities;

Professor Mark Viant, University of Birmingham, UK: Proteomic and other omic approaches to predict off-target activity and toxicity of new drug substances;

Miss Teresa Collins, AstraZeneca, UK: Application of modelling and simulation techniques to aid forward and back translation of safety endpoints.

Pharmacology 2020 is also inviting submission of abstracts and registration for this multi-day global online event. It will feature scientific symposia, workshops, social activities and interactive poster sessions.

The abstract deadline is Friday 11 September 2020.

The Early Bird ticket deadline is 25 October 2020.
